The purchase of the land by the Land Trust of Napa County for $24 million marks a significant victory for conservationists who have long advocated for protecting this unique ecosystem.

The Walt Ranch's saga began in 2005 when vintners Craig and Kathryn Hall acquired the property for $8 million, with plans to develop commercial vineyards.
